Happy birthday Herman Hesse...kind of! Today, Herman Hesse would have been 130 years old. Who's Herman Hesse you ask? Well...then you're an idiot! mmmh... Herman Hesse is my favourite writter of all time. And he is not great just because I like him. He is great because he won a Nobel prize for his "The Glass Bead Game". He was born in Calw, Germany and emigrated in Switzerland at the begining of the First World War. He was a wild child in his youth and because of this he was kicked out of many schools and gave his parents quite a handful. They knew back then that their son was destined for great things. Hesse married Maria Bernoulli in 1904, settled down with her in Gaienhofen on Lake Constance, and began a family, eventually having three sons. Due to the fact that his wife was suffering from schizophrenia he was forced to leave his military career and start psychotherapy. This began for Hesse a long preoccupation with psychoanalysis, through which he came to know Carl Jung personally, and was challenged to new creative heights. The spirital solitude of this artist and the isolation from the modern world are frequent themes encountered in his works. His most famous writtings are: The Glass Bead Game, Knult and Demian, Siddharta (my fav), Gertrude, Peter Camenzind, Steppenwolf ( the previous post :D ), Death and the Lover aka Narcissus and Goldmund, If the War Goes On... .

So...once again. Happy birthday or something... *wipes tear*

A portion of Herman Hesse's quote: "In each individual the spirit is made flesh, in each one the whole of creation suffers, in each one a savior is crucified."
